Michelangelo turned a ceiling into a universe where humanity is magnificent and unfinished.

True fresco on wet plaster, painted under extreme physical strain. Michelangelo designed a complex illusionistic architecture filled with prophets, sibyls, ignudi, and Genesis scenes.

The central scenes trace creation and fall. Prophets and sibyls announce salvation history. Adam’s reaching hand symbolizes human dependence and divine spark.

Commissioned by Pope Julius II during a campaign to make Rome the artistic capital of Christendom.
