The Story

Thirty-two canvases show thirty-two flavors of soup, each can presented plainly, like a grocery shelf translated into art. Nothing is dramatized. That is the shock. Warhol makes the familiar strange by refusing to decorate it. You begin to see the can not as food, but as image, habit, and American repetition.

The Technique

Synthetic polymer paint on canvas, using commercial graphic clarity and serial format. Early versions were hand-painted to mimic mechanical reproduction.

The soup can represents mass production, consumer sameness, comfort, branding, and the democracy of supermarket culture.
